To ensure proper treatment and a positive outcome for prosthetic joint infection (PJI), an accurate and rapid microbiological diagnosis is essential. This study aims to evaluate the contribution of direct Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) in the prompt identification of pathogens linked to prosthetic joint infection (PJI) from sonication fluid cultured in blood culture bottles (BCB-SF). The prospective multicenter study, which ran from February 2016 to February 2017, included 107 consecutive patients. Among the surgical interventions, 71 revision surgeries focused on aseptic prosthetic joints and 36 on septic ones.
